about

On ACEN029 we welcome Zambia-based producer SHE Spells Doom back to the label after a stand-out appearance on the 2nd Anniversary Compilation last year.

The record opens with Rudnick. Named after an antagonist of the film Heavy Metal, the track opens with a melody equally reminiscent of nu-wave and Scott Storch instrumentals, before introducing heavy, early-2000s hip-hop inspired drums. A futuristic digital sound palette is complemented by booming kicks, whispered vocal samples and an infectious bassline.

Jet Black jumps straight in with an entrancing melody and funky-inspired rhythms. The track evolves into an irresistible percussive work-out, with expertly programmed snares weaving in and out of powerful kicks and tight ride cymbals. The melody gives the track a dark and hypnotic quality, the feeling of falling into a void.

Earthly Pleasures continues where Jet Black left off with a nocturnal mood, accompanied by syncopated rhythms played on crashing cymbals and drums. The track is driven forward by a captivating bassline, whilst vocal snippets and whirring sirens dip in and out of the mix. The track breaks down with the emergence of a cavernous sub, before launching back into the hook.

Rudnick is available across all platforms from the 13th of August.
